Balkan power boost

The biggest single private investment in the republic of Macedonia to date was signed during 2007 and arranged by Landesbank Berlin (LBB). The 167mn Eur finance raise is for the construction of a 'cleaner' 220MW combined cycle power plant in Skopje

Overview

Due to lack of electricity in Macedonia the project plays a major role for stability and enomic growth in the country and region ...

Combined Cycle Co-Generation Power Plant Project Skopje

TE-TO AD Skopje, was established in 2005 in the Republic of Macedonia, as a shareholding company with Macedonian and Foreign Shareholders. The company TE-TO AD Skopje operates with the combined cycle cogeneration power plant in Skopje, which was commissioned in May 2011. The location of the power plant is close to the Toplifikacija AD Skopje - Heating Plant ISTOK. The average annual capacity of the power plant is 220 MW for electicity generation and up to 160 MW for heat production. The investor of the project, TE-TO AD, contracted the international consortium GAMA Power Systems A.S. and Alstom Ltd, to realise complete project on a turnkey basis, i.e. Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of the entire Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP), following domestic and international regulations. The Combined Cycle Power Plant TE-TO AD Skopje will operate as a first Independent Power Producer (IPP) and shall supply power to the Macedonian and regional electricity market and also to the international markets. The produced heat shall be delivered to the district heating system of the city of Skopje.

Environmental Requirements

The concept of the CCPP is based on state-of-the art and modern combined cycle power plant technology. All available national and international environmental legal requirements were implemented during the design of the power plant. The plant will use natural gas as environmentally friendly fuel and will reach high energy efficiency. Utilizes of natural gas as exclusive fuel for power and heat generation result into significant reductions of air emissions: SO2 emissions are eliminated, while CO2 emissions are significantly reduced compared to conventional coal -fired power plants. Gas turbine include newest technology of EV (environmental) low NOx burners, which are designed to provide NOx emissions and high fuel efficiency. All wastewaters and residues of the CCPP will be collected and treated in the waste water treatment plant before their disposal in order to minimize the environmental impacts. This will ensure that emissions in the final recipient meet the strict national and international legislation limits. Cooling concept with air-water cooling tower (hybrid type) are utilized instead of conventional wet cooling tower. The use of this cooling tower is environmentally favorable due to the minimized cooling water consumption and the elimination of fog associated with the evaporation of cooling water from the wet cooling towers. TE-TO is a good example of environmentally sound technology, contributing to energy development and attracting additional foreign investments in Macedonia.
